I kid you not, Montenegrins are so friendly and cheerful that you will not detect any hint of malice in their friendliness and smiles.
Ordinarily, I would not have known about Montenegro in 2023 if not for my hostel mate who suggested I do. We were each talking about our plans for the next weekend which was my birthday weekend when he made that suggestion.
So off I hopped on the Bus from Tirana to Podgorica that rainy morning, and I returned on Monday. While in Podgorica, I met George; a wonderful host who runs the Stars Aspava Blue HOSTEL in the city centre, I also met Eon and we visited Virpaza.
Back to my story, I visited Montenegro again in 2024 and I cannot take my mind off how happy, welcoming and cheerful everyone we met was. You go to the market or supermarket and there is always someone happy to show you how something is done. On the streets, people are intentionally smiling at you and most would even say “Hi”.
Almost every road has a big green park you can sit at, exercise in or take long walks within. I genuinely hope their joy never departs from them. Montenegro to me, feels like one of those little countries you want to go on a road trip to every other weekend, just because “Happiness is Contagious” and the Bubble Tea is so so good!
