Isn’t it interesting how a little design change can fix your problem?
While I lived in Kigali one-time, I needed duvet covers made in Nigeria and sent over, so I asked my Sister from another Mother to go to the market, get the materials, and get a Tailor to make me one and she did. Today, I bought a full bed set and while fitting in my duvet and the pillows, I noticed the pillow covers had zips (without the handle) on the sides as well as the duvet cover.
I thought hmmm oh so this was the problem, the duvet cover that Tailor had made for my sister had dual zips with big handles at the top, and every time I used it, there was always this awareness and discomfort I felt that interrupted my sleep.
I dated a guy one time who was obsessed with designs and always talked about how every problem humanity encountered could be fixed with some improvement in its design. Whenever we were out and would approach the Maryland bus stop; now this section on the Maryland-Ojota road always had bad traffic, and at that intersection, he would point at the current design and indicate how the traffic problem could be fixed with an improvement on the current design. Looking back, I realize his point of view now and I understand that mindset too.
So perhaps, the next time you are also dealing with a problem, try approaching it with a design mindset and think of how to improve the current design of your problem, maybe this could help make the solution “clearer” to you too.
